For work I am doing these office notice boards that will tell everyone in the business what’s going on, where there are vacancies, what promotions are happening, etc. So I’ve been measuring and scaling and drawing up plans for it. Pretty boring stuff to be honest, although I somewhat sickenly do enjoy drawing up these maps in .5 rules, measuring the racks and creating these charts on where they go.
So along the way I thought of doing a personal, wall-mounted filing device, marked with stickers that say things no one would understand completely. Like you’re entering a science or psychology lab that deals with topics you don’t fully comprehend. Like the Lone Gunmen out of the X-files that tell Spooky Mulder about secret alien storage spaces, mixed with the tidiness of something Thomas Demand could’ve created (or maybe i got inspired by an earlier post to this blog).
I went to the Frieze Art Fair last year and saw an artist, who’s name i for whatever reason forgot to write down, but made fantastic work where he’d make maps and charts of his personal thoughts and emotions. He stuck several layers of cellotape with written on words on top of each other and created bar charts, pie charts and the sorts to lay out his experiences. I loved it in the totally incomprehensible, yet vaguely familiar routes he took in daily life. I should really look him up and post something about the work… next time okay.
