High Heels

Well then..
After months and months of literally no action on the Spillage platform,  here’s a little something from me agian.
I just thought since we have the space, might as well use it, right?

The below is another of my infamous rejects. I’m getting better at understanding the brand I work for, but I can’t help creating these off brief designs… because its so much fun!

Team Robespierre 7 inch
Powered by a dirty punk rock ethos, synth hooks and programmed dance beats, Team Robespierre have helped resurrect a Brooklyn punk scene that has been waiting to embrace the raw energy of a nation’s basements and late night warehouse dance parties.

Last Saturday saw the release of Team Robespierre’s first UK release.
Readers of this blog will remember a post a little while ago of a record cover that wasn’t picked by the band and that I had changed it into something completely different (see previous posts to find out). Well, here it is. The Team played a row of gigs here in London, starting Wednesday at the Social near oxford street, followed by the Macbeth in hoxton on friday and Club Motherfucker in Dalston on Saturday.

In many ways this was a first. Their first UK record, Club Mofo’s first ever release and my first ever sleeve design for them. Hope you guys like it!

Make the Netherlands Run Down.

While I was in holiday in France  last week, I was struck by the beauty of derelict buildings once more. Is it because in the Netherlands we have these overzealous city councils that do not allow old buildings to be left alone? As a Rotterdam resident I am just used to new*, and sometimes really bad architecture (especially the horrible 80ties social housing programmes). So once abroad, I’m always inclined to take pictures like these. Also slightly weathered type on a building is always a winner.

*In 1940 a German deconstuction company called Luftwaffe created an empty spot where the city centre used to be, giving Rotterdam the opportunity to rebuild everything anew.

5 years

June 5th, 2008  |  by Taco  |  category: Got side-tracked · From the trenches · Anything goes

I am supposed to work on an identity for something’s 5 year birthday and I thought it would be nice to see that thing as a human being. My niece is four and so I know that that’s about the age we all change teeth (which in itself is a bizarre reptile-like phenomenon if you think about it).
So I drew this little kid smiling without front teeth. I know for sure that this one won’t slip through the board so I’m happy to post it for you now.

There wasn’t much to do in the studio yesterday evening, so I decided to kick out a little smoking monster.
